Closets big and small often end up as dumping grounds. You throw things in there when they don’t have another place, then you can’t find anything in the heaps of belongings when you need something from there. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Whether you’ve got a small closet space or a spacious walk-in closet, there are lots of storage solutions to help you organize the space efficiently.
There are lots of different ways to store your things that can help you maximize space, such as,
- Shelves
- Drawers
- Rails
- Hooks
- Boxes
Using a combination of these storage methods is usually the best way to make the most of your space. The shape, size, and style of your closet will determine the best methods for storing your things. And you’ll also need to bear in mind the amount of stuff you have to go in there.
Here are a few tips to help you maximize your closet space…
Organize the space under a rail
Often, clothes are hung from a rail and then shoes and other things are placed on the floor underneath. This leaves a lot of wasted space in between. Instead, install additional storage underneath the clothes hanging from that rail. Place shoes neatly on shelves or a dedicated shoe rack to keep them tidy. Put in a set of drawers to store folded clothes or miscellaneous items.
Utilize wall space
If your closet is deep enough to have wall space on either side, then you can utilize this by placing hooks on these walls. You can then hang clothes or other items from these hooks. You may even be able to use the back wall of your closet for storage in this way, or the inside of your closet doors. A cloth organizer with pockets for shoes could be a real space saver.
Baskets and boxes
Whether it’s the space on the floor or a wide shelf at the top of the wardrobe, things often get thrown in with no order, mixing up lots of different belongings. You can use this space while keeping all your things organized with small baskets and boxes. You can dedicate each box for a particular item, like ties or jewelry, and then you know where to look.
