Simply wiping down the fronts of your cabinets on occasion will keep them looking fresh and clean. But it’s easy to forget about the inside of your kitchen cabinets and let all the dust, grime, and debris build-up. And maybe you clean out your closet from time to time, getting rid of all the old stuff you don’t wear and organizing the rest so that everything’s easier to find. But what about actually deep cleaning inside the closet when it needs it?
To help you keep everything looking great, hygienic, and in good condition, let’s look at some tips to help you deep clean your cabinets and closets every few months.
Cleaning inside your cabinets
Don’t just try to dust around your pans or utensils and call it a job well done. Not only will this be inconvenient, but it won’t be at all effective. Start by removing everything from your cabinet so you can clean it properly. Start by dusting or vacuuming inside your cabinet to remove any accumulated dust and debris.
Next, let’s give those surfaces a good clean. You can simply use dish soap and warm water to wipe down your surfaces with a sponge or cloth, or you can mix warm water with vinegar instead. You could also use a store-bought all-purpose cleaner, just make sure you test it first to make sure it’s suitable for your surfaces.
Make sure you get in all those tight corners when wiping the interiors of your kitchen cabinets, and cover the walls as well as the flat surfaces. Once you’re done, wipe the surfaces down with a damp, clean cloth to get rid of any soap residue, then wipe it down again with a clean, dry cloth before returning your things to the cabinet. You may also want to leave the cabinets with the doors open for a little while to properly dry them out.
Cleaning inside your closet
Just like with the cabinets, start by taking everything out of your closet (this could also be a good time to sort through your clothes if needed). Vacuum the floor of your closet and dust any shelves or other surfaces.
Closets generally won’t require as much as a deep clean as kitchen cabinets because they’re not exposed to kitchen grease and grime, but it’s still a good idea to wipe down the surfaces with a damp cloth, a multi-purpose cleaner, or a solution of warm water and vinegar. These last two solutions should tackle any odors coming from your closet, but you may also want to spray an air freshener for an extra pleasant scent. If your floor isn’t carpeted, you may also want to mop the floor after you’ve vacuumed.
